Maureen Lang
Engaging the mind, renewing the soul

My first novel was a romance, penned (literally) when I was around ten years old. It was titled "To Have and To Hold" and was hand printed since I wasn't at the time allowed to use the one and only typewriter my family owned. (This was way before computers.) I bound my first book, a limited edition novel, with soft brown deerskin and passed it around to neighborhood kids. Those kids are probably responsible for the fact I'm still writing today. They liked it and wanted to read more - thus launching the career of a romance writer.

I became a "professional" in my twenties, after winning a Golden Heart Award and selling my first novel to a New York publisher the same year. But after a few years in the secular market, my life took some turns and I left writing altogether.

Now I'm back at it with more passion than ever. Once again I'm writing books with a strong romantic flavor, only this time for the Inspirational market. What! Who knew Christians wanted to read romances, too?

So visit with me a while... I warn you, I've never been able to write "short" and my website is no different. This site is devoted to people who love books and the market behind them. Specifically, romantic books - reading and writing them.

Happy Reading!

Romantic Times:

ON SPARROW HILL

As the curator for Quentin Hollinworth's family estate, Rebecca Seabrooke is focused on just two things: making hers the most successful historical home in the country and forgetting the childhood crush she's had on Quentin since her father worked as his family's valet. After all, they don't exactly run in the same circles.

But when she and Quentin uncover letters in the family vault written over 150 years ago by Berrie Hamilton — one of Quentin's ancestors — Rebecca discovers that Quentin isn't the only one with a legacy to appreciate. Only Berrie's words can prepare Rebecca for the dramatic turn her life is about to take.

When Talie Ingram discovers her forebears’ journal and learns five members of her family once died in a murder-suicide because of this “curse,” Talie sets the journal aside, convinced some skeletons are best left in the closet. Until she sees signs of developmental delay in her own son…

Here's what some are saying about my books:

ON SPARROW HILL

The sequel to The Oak Leaves is as impressive and thought provoking as the first book. Readers are treated to two different time periods, Victorian Ireland and contemporary England. Wonderful characters are written with style, grace and charm. Keep the tissues close by!

—Romantic Time's 4 1/2 stars

...readers will appreciate the well written, poignant On Sparrow Hill.

—Harriet Klausner

THE OAK LEAVES

A tender account of unconditional love and the deeper joy that results from overcoming the odds, Lang's latest is recommended for all collections.

—Library Journal

Lang has written a novel that's close to her heart, in which a mother's love for her child knows no boundaries. This book is heart-wrenching but heart-warming at the same time.

—Romantic Times (4 stars)

"Drawing from her own life, Maureen Lang invites us to experience the honest disappointments and glorious discoveries that come from mothering a son others may see as 'different,' yet God sees only as His beloved child."

REMEMBER ME

"Remember Me is an unforgettable story of a young man's struggle to reconcile his faith with his politics...This is a book that engages the mind as well as the heart."

PIECES OF SILVER (Nominated for a Christy Award)

Pieces of Silver is a story straight from the author's heart that will leave readers pondering the characters and their lives long after the final page is turned. Excitement, intrigue and romance! If this is the type of book to expect in the future from Ms. Lang, I can't wait for her next one! Bravo!
