The holidays are over, and some of us greet that with mixed emotions. It’s certainly a fun time of the year for all the obvious reasons, but more importantly it’s a time to reflect on what Christ did for us by leaving heaven to be born in a humble human body to save us. The holidays close with the end of an old year, the beginning of a new one. Another reason to reflect.
All I can say about this coming year is that I’m fairly certain it’ll go by as quickly as the last one did. Time has a way of doing that, the older a person gets.
Now it’s time to get back to work or school, to which some people are probably dragging their feet. But not me, which is why you see an exclamation point as part of today’s title. Monday mornings are my favorite day of the week, so you can imagine I’m one of those annoying people who just love my job and am glad to be back at it. Part of that job is maintaining this blog.
As it says on the sidebar, I began this spot with the intention of tracking the progress of Book One in my current series. But I must say I’ve learned blogging isn’t as challenging as I thought it would be, that in fact it’s more fun than I expected. It is a little daunting to think this blog might become like another, where every topic is fair game. Having so broad a range, it could be hard to decide on specific things to talk about.
Other than discussing books and the writing life (see name of this blog), I’ll also be running an occasional contest. The one I have going right now is outlined in my Gracious Me! post (see below) . Check it out, and enter! Can’t go wrong with the chocolate. The winner will be announced later this week, January 9th.
And by the way, I’ve had a couple of people ask me how my brunch went with my editors that I mentioned over the holiday. God certainly smiled down on that visit by providing one of the few lovely days of December. In between ice and snowstorms, the driving weather was perfect! We had a lovely visit, talked about Brother’s All (yes, we’re still calling it that) and ate all the goodies – an egg casserole, fresh fruit with a whipped cream cheese topping sweetened with marshmallow cream, banana muffins (that were only 1 point each – my fellow Weight Watchers will appreciate that!), nut bread and Christmas cookies (whose points I did not count).
I’d been tempted to take pictures, but I’m the worst photographer in my family and didn’t think you’d enjoy seeing pictures of my thumb, or out of focus, or cut off heads… And so the little brunch party will remain a visual memory only for me and my editors, which is perhaps the way they’d prefer anyway.
So keep checking back now that the holidays are over and my routine is back in place. I’ll be blogging regularly again. And don’t forget to enter the contest!

Nice to see such an optimistic post from you, Maureen, after reading how difficult 2008 was for you. (My deepest condolences for the loss of your mother). Personally, I’m not accepting the world’s view of “bad times” ahead for this year. I think there are always way more things to be glad about than not, and I expect a great year ahead. I can see you’re headed for the same!
Blessings.

That’s nice that you had a good lunch. 🙂 I’ve thought about giving up blogging because of the time it takes, but ultimately, I love it. Usually there’s something I feel like blabbing about, so it’s done me good. 🙂
